Crete

Crete is the boundary island among Europe, Africa and Asia. The fifth largest island in the Mediterranean and the largest one in Greece. Separates the Libyan from the Aegean Sea. Crete’s climate is the mildest in Europe.

Mountains rise across the island, often creating different weather conditions in northern and southern Crete.In western Crete, the White Mountains occupy a large area within the prefecture of Chania and contain more than 40 peaks over 2,000 meters high. Some of the most characteristic natural beauties of Crete consist of the famous Cretan gorges(Samaria. Imbros, Agia Irini). The most significant gorge of Crete is Samaria gorge in Chania, which impresses with its unique natural beauty. And remember it’s not a piece of cake! It’s length is 18 km .Starts from Xyloskalo a village in Omalos and ends at Agia Roumeli, a beautiful seaside village. Crete is well known for its hospitable people and is the ideal place to spend your vacations.

Between Chania and Rethymnon, in the beautiful rolling foothills of the White Mountains and only a short distance from the northern Cretan sea, is the traditional area of Apokoronas, with a rich cultural heritage.

Widely known as a destination where someone can become immersed into the real authentic Crete , relax and combine holiday entertainment with cultural pursuits. In Apokoronas area the most known seaside villages are Kalyves and Almyrida.

A great way to explore Crete is to rent a car or rent a bike. Distances are not so big and it’s the most convenient way to see the wonderful, still virgin beaches, visit Cretan villages and taste traditional meals.
