Moreover in the Apokoronas regionyou will find several beautiful villages you can visit by renting a car. One of these is Plaka. Plaka is a very nice village built on a hill at an altitude of 70 meters, almost amphitheatrically offering great views to Almyrida and of course to the blue Cretan Sea and the Bay of Souda. Going south you will find Gavalochori. Gavalohori is probably not the most famous village of Apokoronas but it is certainly one of the most beautiful and picturesque. Famous for its amazing and well-preserved traditional architecture of the houses but also for its rich history. In Gavalohori you can visit the Historical – Folk Museum of the village and a traditional pre-industrial 17th century olive mill. West of Gavalochori, within a short distance, tucked amid the unique cypress of Vamos, you will find Douliana. A small traditional village built on a hill that offers magnificent view of the sea from one side and the White Mountains on the other.

Moving South by car you’ve rented you can visit Vamos. Vamos village is located at the foot of the White Mountains, 25 klm from the city of Chania. Vamos is a semi-mountainous village, 300 meters above sea level, surrounded by cultivated and wild nature. In Vamos you can admire a well-preserved traditional stone road, the old neighborhood, the chapel of the Virgin Maria (monument of the 13th century) and the Karidi monastery (13th-19th), with the amazing mill with 12 arches. In a short distance from Vamos, just 3 km north you will meet the village Tsivaras. Tsivaras is a small village with a traditional cafe in the center of the village where you can take a break and enjoy your coffee under the shade offered by the trees. If you want to continue eastern from Vamos you can visit the village Kefalas. Kefalas is a small traditional village surrounding by olive and orange groves.

Another interesting route you can follow starting from Kalyves is the old national road Chania-Rethymnon. It is an amazing path choked the trees and olive trees. During the route you will come across several small villages worth to visit such as Armeni with its natural springs provide water to the region. These springs gush from the village Stylos located a short walk from Armeni. In Stylos there a situated the springs of water “Kavousi” and “Karava”, that flow to a central point of the village and you can taste the water of the area, from which watered and irrigated not only that village, but also other areas of the western Apokoronas, and also regions of Keramia and Akrotiri. Moving south you will find the Maheri, Agioi Pantes and will arrive to the village of Vrisses. Vrisses is the current capital of the municipality of Krionerida (Apokoronas) in the center of Chania perfecture, while a passage heading south to Sfakia.
